This position performs advanced level electronics support to a broad internal customer base within The Timken Company with an emphasis on Research and Development activities.  This position supports both USA-based Timken facilities as well as international facilities.  This position requires a wide breadth of knowledge of current and cutting edge electronic instrumentation technology to analyze and develop action plans to complete engineering tasks efficiently.  This position uses specialized training and acquired knowledge base to develop new electronics related technologies (i.e. gauges, sensors etc.) and capabilities that enable its customers to develop new products and process for the Company.  This position also helps maintain testing and data acquisition standards within the Product Application and Testing group in order to further the development of products to meet the future needs of the Company’s customers.


  • Works with Engineers and Scientists to provide solutions to complex projects and investigations by creating new or utilizing existing electronic and mechanical designs and instrumentation. This involves creating project documentation (mechanical and electrical design drawings) and then designing, building and operating electronic test devices and data acquisition systems.  Such projects include the design and build of complex electronic circuits or systems.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and principles required.  
  • Maintain Electronics lab 5S + Safety goals as well as ISO 9001:2008 standard.
  • Maintain calibrations of sensitive electronic instrumentation.
  • Create Procedures and Work Instructions for lab equipment calibrations and standards, as well as specific item calibrations.
  • This position will use IR equipment and high speed video equipment to provide their customers with in-depth engineering investigations in order to determine the root cause of a problem or to validate expected results.
  • This position will make use of continuing education and training through trade shows, vendor training and workshops to maintain and broaden their current knowledge of adhesives, DAQ, instrumentation, and new technologies in electronic and electrical systems and components.


  • Experience with equipment and processes needed to calibrate electronic and thermal lab equipment-Required
  • Strong investigative communications skills (verbal and written)-Required
  • Microsoft Office computer skills-Required
  • Experience in the specification and installation of strain gage systems-Required
  • CAD experience-Preferred
  • Use of basic machine shop equipment (lathe, 3 axis mill, etc) and hand tools-preferred
  • Experience with high speed videography-preferred
  • Experience with Infrared thermography-preferred


Associate Degree with 5+ years of relevant experience is required. Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
