The ETS Lead Technician supports customers remotely and on-site through the specification, installation, and repair of controls, control parts, industrial control panels, VFD’s, motor control centers, and starters.  The ETS Lead also demonstrates proficiency and subject matter expertise in the specification, installation, testing, and repair of switch gear, relays, breakers, and transformers. Responsibilities include on-site installations, on-site technical support, extended outage work , emergency breakdown support and repairs, and warranty work. The Lead Technician provides direction to other ETS Technicians and Apprentices including technical guidance and training, prioritizes work assignments and resolves complex technical issues. The ETS Lead Technician will also help to identify and develop equipment and technology needs as well as growth opportunities within the ETS department.

As the Lead Technician for the work team, this position is responsible for:

  • Serves as subject matter expert and principal contact for controls, VFD’s, motor control centers, starters, switch gear, breakers, relays, and transformers.

  • Perform job walks at customer sites in order to develop a project scope, calculate the labor and materials necessary to complete the scope, and develop a quote submittal to the customer.

  • Manage and plan the daily, weekly, monthly, and emergency schedules of five or more techicians performing multiple customer projects in the shop and/or on customer sites.

  • The MTS Lead Technician is also responsible for identifying the training needs of  the department and facilitating the means to accomplish training.  

  • The Lead Technician must ensure that all work performed and all customer reports generated are in accordance with approved technical data and that maintenance records are accurate and complete. 

  • Ensuring that any customer certifications or training requirements necessary to be permitted on-site are completed.  Some required certifications are:  MICCS, Mine Safety Certification (below and above ground) and OSHA Certification.

  • Maintain existing equipment and vehicles and identify new equipment and technology needed to perform all work.

  • Participate in the development of annual CAPEX plans and budgets for the department.

  • Manage the performance of three to five department direct reports including performance reviews, merit increases, and performance related deficiencies

Technicians are on call 24 hours a day to offer customer availability for emergency work.  Technicians travel frequently to customer sites.  The ETS lead technician will also contribute to the development and improvement of department processes and procedures, participate in safety training and programs and maintain a safe working environment.
