This position exists to design, develop, construct, and maintain electrical control systems related to the function of the facility.  This position will help maintain and troubleshoot the electrical systems pertaining to the building automation system, lighting system, and HVAC/chiller/boiler/cooling tower equipment and drives.  This position will be responsible for integration basic level systems into the building automation system.

This position will also design, develop, construct, and maintain electrical control systems for the implementation of new concepts on Research projects/testing systems.


  • Design and construct electrical control circuitry and programming logic for integration of lower level facility systems into the building automation system.  Projects will be handled start to finish (design/build/install/startup).  Position will work with outside controls contractor on the implementation of larger systems in order to meet project timelines.
  • Function as facility lead on computerized lighting/shade control system.
  • Assist facilities Principal Electrical Analyst on regular facility maintenance issues related to motor control centers, substation breakers, well water system, fire alarm control system, compressed air system, iron filtration system etc.
  • Design and construct electrical control circuitry for prototype and test machinery based on the needs of the customers. Design and program PLC logic for such machines as well as data acquisition schemes.
  • Prepare budgets and designs for projects less than $100,000/ 12 week project time frame.
  • Communicate closely with pipe fitters, machinists, sheet metal workers, machine operators, engineers, design technicians, safety inspectors, and others, so that machinery may be constructed as efficiently as possible using the proper tools and procedures as outlined in various safety and electrical codes.
  • Analyze prototype and test machinery using electrical and electronic test equipment , schematics, logic and wiring diagrams, flow charts, cycle graphs, and other technical data in order to determine what improvements or changes might be needed to obtain more precise and efficient machine operation. Uses the data to design and implement the solution.
  • Provide possible solutions for problems which have occurred during design, instruction, or run-off of test machinery. Implement these changes with success without first consulting the Engineering Department.
  • Keep informed about new types of electrical, electronic, and microprocessor controls by studying technical manuals, video tapes, attending factory schools and seminars, and working with field service engineers so that these controls may be integrated into futuristic machine controls with the least amount of difficulty, confusion, and expense possible.


Proficient in CAD

Ability to design and develop PLC ladder logic

Ability to design and develop HMI programming

Proficient in basic and advanced electrical tools (multimeters, o-scopes, data acquisition systems)

Basic computer knowledge (Microsoft office)

Understanding of NEC code and the ability to make decisions based upon it.

Function knowledge of facility systems such as boilers, chillers, HVAC, variable speed fans, etc.

Ability to program building automation system   

Building Operators Certificate Level 1   


Minimum: HS Diploma with 8+ years of relevant experience is required (i.e. test lab, facility maintenance etc.). Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Technology is preferred.
