Receives instructions, drawings and sketches from supervision regarding work assignment.  Interprets drawings, plans working procedure, performs layout work and makes sketches of parts as required.  Works in shop or field as required.

Selects and grinds tools for the job in accordance with the hardness, machinability, and other properties of parts or materials to be machined.  Procures or makes jigs, fixtures or machine attachments required for the job.

Machines and grinds parts to size and finish specifications.

Operates machine tools to make or alter parts to fit into assemblies; drills, reams, or taps holes, etc; performs bench work such as

Uses shop formula and handbook to make calculations as necessary.

Performs related assignments such as making minor pipefitting repairs, lubricating machines and equipment, filling out work tickets, maintenance reports, etc,; handling and moving materials in and about department and plant, hooking and unhooking lifts, and keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly.


2-5 years work experience in manufacturing environment or related education.

Ability to setup and operate manual engine lathes and knee type mills.

Experience on CNC equipment with basic understanding of how to write G-code instructions.

 Ability to accurately measure with vernier calipers, dial calipers, micrometers, telescoping bore gauges, indicators, comparitors, and other types of measuring devices.

Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.

Experience holding size tolerances down to .0005 inches.

Experience building fixtures and jigs.

Ability to machine new parts based on interpretation of dimensions taken from a worn part.

Demonstrated knowledge and use of Machinery’s Handbook.

Good communication skills; both verbally and written.

Ability to work cooperatively with Maintenance and Engineering.

Self-motivated and able to be productive with little supervision.

Technical or mechanical background.

Proven record of reliable attendance, strong work ethic and team skills.

Demonstrated strong math and mechanical skills.

Must have high school or general equivalency diploma (GED).

Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
