Position Summary:  This applicant will be responsible for dimensional inspection on a wide variety of components and finished assemblies in order to verify product conformity using CMM technology and various other metrology instruments and gauges to perform profile, surface finish and form measurements.  Use of CMM technology will be heavily utilized to perform these functions.  Programming, setup and operation of CMM’s in an accurate, safe, and timely manner is essential.

Essential Job Duties: 

  • Proficient Metrology skills.
    • Background using general metrology instruments.
      • Hand tools (i.e. micrometers, calipers, etc.)
      • Tracing equipment (i.e. surface finish, profile, etc.)
      • Comparators
    • Blue print reading and interpretation.
    • GD&T and GD&T specifications.
  • Knowledge and actual use of CMM.
    • Setup, operation and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient programming knowledge and skills.
    • Calypso, Quindos or PCDMIS
    • Have the ability to quickly write and debug programs
  • Strong math skills.
    • Basic math and Trigonometry
  • Familiar with ISO-9001 technical specification.
    • Able to complete ISIR for PPAP.
    • Familiar with Measurement System Analysis including Gage R&R studies.
    • Able to complete Process Capability Studies.
  • Ability to work on multiple programs and projects with changing deadlines and priorities.
  • Proficient with writing detailed work instructions and inspection reports.
  • Strong communication and team skills for internal and external customers.
    • Team skills and ability to get along with others and willing to learn is crucial for success of this job.
  • Teach approved measuring and testing methods to inspection personnel.

Minimum Requirements:  

  • Proficient with Word and Excel.
    • Be able to learn advanced Word and Excel functions.
  • Strong ability to work independently and organize work with a sense of urgency.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strives for Continuous Improvement.

Education and/or Experience:  High School or GED required.  3 years minimum hands on metrology experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Secondary Education and/or ASQ Certification preferred. 

Language Skills:      

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and complete necessary production forms.  Ability to speak effectively with fellow employees and/or customers. 

Mathematical Skills:                                                     

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:                                                          

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several variables; problem solving ability.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, use hands/arms.   The employee is regularly required to talk, hear at conversational level, and smell.  The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.  Moving/lifting greater than 50 pounds requires assistance from another employee or a lifting device/hoist.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

Employee is required to wear proper safety eyewear, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes at all times while on the plant floor.
